Reeve's Muntjak
On the forest floor...
The muntjac is a small deer which originally comes from south-east Asia. However, at Knuthenborg it lives in Lemurskoven – or the Lemur Forest – where, as in its natural habitat, it grazes in the underbush. In most places around the world, herbivores, for example deer, live in the underbush where there are lots of fresh shoots and fallen fruit. However, on Madagascar there are no large herbivorous mammals in the underbush. Of the larger lemurs, the ring-tailed lemur spends most time on the ground.
